Where my brain went...

In another blog today I read the statement...
"Imagination increases your mind"
The writer was trying to encourage his readers to use their imagination more in a godly way, because in doing so, it can really help your journey.

I tend to find we can focus too much on the negative of things if we are not careful. 'Using your imagination' is considered by many to be dangerous, because vain imagination and unchecked ungodly imaginings are unhealthy to your relationship with God.
On the flip side, a healthy imagination does something extremely powerful and special. This same writer also said "imagination diminishes and eliminates the perception of obstacles."

My agenda today is simple...I want to encourage you to use your imagination when you are reading God's Word.
Why?
Because it has the power to increase your mind. It has the power to diminish and eliminate the perception of obstacles to your understanding of the very things you are reading.
Can I encourage you to let the word of God stir and stretch your imagination?
Let it motivate you to ponder and to ask questions...

Here is an example I was looking at this morning and below I have put some of my thoughts/questions/imaginings.

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
Matthew 17:1-8 niv

This is where my brain went after reading this...

  • What did they talk about? What was the conversation that Jesus had with these famous players in history? Could the disciples hear it?
  • It seems to go from level to level. One minute Jesus is glowing, then He is talking to some famous guys, then God is speaking. It is like it just kept getting better and better! What would that have felt like to the disciples?
  • They heard God actually speak out loud! Think about that...
  • They saw Moses and Elijah - having never seen them before. Remember they had never seen a picture of them and here they were...photography was a long time from being invented!
  • Were Moses and Elijah the the age they were when they died or younger version of themselves?
  • How long did these events last? It seems quick because of it being recorded in a sentence or two, but what was it really like?
  • Why were they only scared when God spoke?
  • Imagine if they had Facebook? Imagine if they had Twitter?

Why don't you spend a little time this week not just reading but imagining your way through whatever you read in God's Word.
May it stir your spirit, grow your mind and understanding, grow you and change you!

Something to think about...
